What to pack when cruising on the Yangtze River?
China is a huge country. If you are planning to travel around China, you need to be prudent about what to pack.
10 useful tips on what to pack when cruising on the Yangtze River:
In China, if you book an economy class ticket, international flights usually allow each passenger to carry luggage weighing less than 23KG, and domestic flights only allow 20KG per passenger (the luggage limit is higher with seat upgrades). If your luggage weighs more than 20KG, the checking staff will be very quick to charge you, and you need to pay a considerable amount of money.
There is no weight limit for luggage on a cruise ship, and you will have a baggage rack in your room. If you have a large and heavy suitcase, you can hire porters to send your bags from the port to your room on the ship. There will be a charge for this service.
The cruise itineraries are very port-intensive, so passengers need to prepare for walking and pack a pair of hard-soled, comfortable and well-worn shoes. If you pack new ones, it will take time to adjust to them.
While cruising on the Yangtze River, the weather can change quickly. Please take a warm cardigan and a small umbrella or waterproof jacket. If you are restricted by your weight limit for luggage or forgot to pack some small items, don't worry as you can always buy them on the ship.
For the Captain's Welcome Party, every passenger should dress formally. Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and ladies are required to wear a dress or skirt. However, you can wear smart casual attire.
Please take along a plug adapter. Electricity on all our ships is 220 volts and 110 volts in the bathroom. The wattage may not be compatible with your hair dryer. If you forgot to bring your adapter, you don't have to worry as video cameras, digital cameras and other electrical appliances can be recharged at the front desk.
One question often asked is whether malaria precautions/medicines should be taken for a Yangtze cruise? The best advice we can give is to talk to your general practitioner who has up-to-date information and can act accordingly.
Do not forget to pack your favorite toiletries and sunscreen. In the cabin, you can find soap and toothpaste as well as bottled water. You can wash your teeth with bottled water instead of drinking tap water.
Please prepare some cash when going out for port sightseeing. You are in a remote area of China where you will meet some local farmers or craft makers who are willing to sell you their products but they do not accept cards.
When you see something you want to buy, haggle! Because the initial price is ridiculously high. Normally, you can make a counteroffer with a ridiculously low one. Barter and don't feel embarrassed! It's fun!
In order to protect your legitimate rights and interests and ensure your safety and excellent experience throughout the cruise, hereby are the shipboard safety instructions for all guests as follows:
Passengers are strictly prohibited from carrying dangerous goods such as weapons, sharp objects, knives, kerosene, gasoline, alcohol, firecrackers, detonators, explosives, acid, hydrochloric acid, etc. If you have any of the above items with you on board, please contact the crew immediately for proper disposal.
Please follow the safety instructions of the crew and do not push, climb or cross the railing while embarking and disembarking.
Please accompany and supervise your children at all times during the cruise.
Smoking is prohibited inside the ship except on the sun deck.
Do not use high-power electrical devices in the cabin.
Please report to the crew in time if you find any issue affecting the safety of guests and cruise staff.
If any assistance is needed, please do not hesitate to contact the reception.
In the event of an emergency, please stay calm and follow the evacuation instructions of the crew or the shipboard announcement.
