We are all happy when we win? Right? And we are all proud when hard work is appreciated? And we couldn’t be more proud to receive an email from Travel Weekly USA, acknowledging our hard work by announcing us the winner in the Eco-Friendly “Green” Cruise Ship category.

We won the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards for 2019 and we want to shout it from the top of our newest and biggest vessel on the Yangtze River, Century Glory, which is also the one and only eco-friendly vessel on the majestic Yangtze River!

When we made the decision to introduce a new ship on the Yangtze River we decided to build one from scratch and not simply refurbish an old one, covering our tracks by using a new name for an old ship. We also had in mind the very fragile eco system on the Yangtze River. Many cruise liners on the river travel in environmentally sensitive areas but the frail ecosystem of the 3rd longest river in the world needs to be protected. The Chinese alligator is the only known living species of alligator native to China and you can see them exclusively in the Yangtze. With only around 200 individuals accounted for in the wild, they are listed as a critically endangered species. The very small number of other endangered species such as the Yangtze River Dolphin, Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle, Yangtze Salamander and Sturgeon also need protection. As a result, Century Cruises, a responsible cruise company, has built a new ship using the newest technology available to implement a low emission system, keeping in mind the endangered species along the Yangtze River.

Also, Century Cruises has invested into high rudder propeller technology to make the newest addition, Century Glory, more efficient. In order to reduce river pollution, Century Cruises integrated electronic propulsion which, among all the prospective alternate power sources, is one of the best alternatives today.

We are so proud of our engineers, our project managers, shipyard builders, designers, the ordinary workers and every single staff member on Century Glory for making the whole process happen. Without them we wouldn’t be able to build such an extraordinary vessel as Century Glory, and in the process be recognised as the best in the travel industry by getting the Magellan Travel Award.

This award is a huge boost but also a huge responsibility to stay at the top of the best.
